"Gyorgy Oravecz was born in Budapest in 1963.
He started his piano studies at the age of eight.
In 1981 he was admitted to the Ferenc Liszt Academy of
Music, where he studied under the professors Istvan Lantos and Zoltan Kocsis.
He was prize winner of the Hungarian Radio’s Piano Competition in 1985, as
well as being awarded the Cziffra Prize connected with a scholarship. Some
words of recommendation from Zoltan Kocsis: "" He is a born musician, showing
further great promise. He has repeatedly proved his virtuoso technical
abilities, assurance in proper styles and last but not least the
unquestionable originality of his musical personality"". He graduated in 1987
at the Music Academy. He has given many successful concerts in several music
centers of Europe - in Austria, Germany and Italy, and his recital in Milan
was sensation. He has toured not only in Europe, he was in Canada and several
time in Brasil. During this tours in Austria, Italy and Brazil he gave
concerts with symphony orchestras as well. He has participated at some
Festivals, like Rovinj (Yugoslavia), Clermont - Ferrand ( France), Donau-Fest
Ulm, Sonoptikum Frankfurt, Saarland Festival ( Germany ), Interforum Fertod,
Bartok Festial Szombathely and Budapest Spring Festival ( Hungary ). It
especially worth mentioning his successful appearance at the first Fazioli
Festival in Hungary in 1998.
Beside recitals he also plays chamber music; he has been the permanent guest
of the ’Coffee Concert"" series organized by the Budapest Festival Orchestra,
where his partners were Zoltan Kocsis and other outstanding soloist. He has
often been a member of the jury at domestic piano competitions.
His repertoire is wide, including beside the compositions of Bach, Brahms,
Schumann, Prokofiev, Liszt the works of Grieg, Bartok and Gerschwin as well.
Several Radio and TV companies have recorded his performances Hungarian
Radio and TV, French TV, Italian TV and Radio Rai, Brazil TV Cultura etc. He
recorded all the Liszt concertos for Hungaroton."
